Adam McLean is a passionate musician, teacher, and father, dedicated to ensuring that "all children have access to music." Growing up in a musical family in Putaruru, South Waikato, Adam began playing in bands at the age of 11. After studying commerce and music at Otago University, he naturally followed in his parents' footsteps—both school principals—by pursuing a career in teaching.

Since 2011, Adam has been a dedicated primary classroom teacher. From 2019 to 2021, he created Bay Music School, a program focused on teaching music in small groups, starting with the foundation of beat, followed by instruments like the ukulele, guitar, drums, and so on. This program laid the groundwork for The Beat Station, which is built on the philosophy of group learning (Tuakana Teina) and the belief that mastering rhythm and beat is key to musical progression.

Today, Adam lives in Mount Maunganui with his wife and three children. He continues to teach at Otumoetai Primary and performs as a full-time musician. Whether playing solo or with his brother in the McLean Brothers—a popular duo for weddings, functions, and events—Adam’s diverse experience as a musician, educator, and classroom teacher has shaped The Beat Station. Drawing on his background as a songwriter, Adam has created all the songs and materials for The Beat Station, ensuring that the music is not only engaging for students but also easy for teachers to use in the classroom.

Recognizing that he can’t be everywhere, Adam has designed The Beat Station to be easy for any teacher to facilitate, even with little or no musical background. The program empowers teachers with clear, easy-to-follow resources and fosters teamwork, leadership, and confidence-building among students. Adam’s mission is to make music an integral part of classroom learning, giving all children the opportunity to play music together—while making it simple and accessible for teachers to implement.
